TRY IT! Beginner Class Saturday February 6, 2010. See bottom of page for details.
Gaelic Fusion was founded in 2004 by co-directors, Maggie Thompson and Silvie Marlette and is based in Madison, Wisconsin. The vision of Gaelic Fusion Dance Company is to integrate Scottish Highland Dancing with different forms of dance as well as to expand our horizons in terms of music and costumes. One of the dances Silvie Marlette has choreographed is the Twisted Fling. The traditional Highland Fling is danced in place; the twist with Silvie's choreography is that this dance is no longer danced on one spot, but continually moves the dancers in formation around the entire performance area. The group has worked with a professional jazz dancer and teacher from New York to choreograph High Lands, an original piece of Scottish Highland dance fused with jazz. Our most recent choreography is a holiday dance called Christmas Merriment, choreographed by Maggie Thompson. In the spirit of Christmas, we put down our swords and picked up our tartan muffs. Scottish dancing is highly energetic and athletic. It becomes even more exciting and explosive when it is combined with new music, movements, and costumes.

Gaelic Fusion Dance Company has performed at the "Celebrate Madison Event", the Madison's Saint Andrew's Society "Burns Night", and at the University of Wisconsin - Madison's Dance Programs "World Dance Celebration." The dance company has given workshops in Scottish Highland dancing as well as traveled statewide to perform. June 21, 2008 Gaelic Fusion was delighted to join in the first annual "Mad Celt Fest," and in 2009 performed at International Festivals in Madison and Burlington, WI.
